Subjunctive / optative (frozen forms)

Structure:

verb stem (no ending) in fixed expressions

Norwegian has almost no productive subjunctive. A few frozen optative forms survive in formal/literary register.

Example:

Leve kongen! Gud bevare oss! **Translation:** Long live the king! God save us!
