Unreal past conditional: hvis + past perfect → ville ha + participle

Structure:

hvis + hadde + participle → ville ha + participle

Past counterfactuals require past perfect in the if-clause and ville ha + participle in the main clause.

Example:

Hvis jeg hadde studert mer, ville jeg ha bestått. **Translation:** If I had studied more, I would have passed.
