Many young people drink a popular cocktail called BuzzBallz. This sweet drink became very famous among Gen Z. A student named Aeden Rooney drinks three cocktails a week. He is twenty-one years old and studies in Cardiff. He likes the drink because it is cheap and strong. A school teacher with the name Merrilee Kick created this brand. Later, a large company with the name Sazerac bought the brand. Jake Wenz is the chief executive officer of this company.

The drink container is a round plastic ball. It also has a metal lid on the top. The company website called the round container recyclable. But environmental experts call this claim completely false. People cannot recycle these containers in the United Kingdom. The plastic ball and the metal lid are together. You cannot separate the plastic from the metal easily. A person must use a dangerous sharp knife for this. So, local recycling centres do not accept these balls.

The round shape also causes many problems for machines. The balls roll on conveyor belts in sorting facilities. The balls roll away, so machines cannot identify them. Then, the balls go into the wrong waste streams. They contaminate the other plastic materials very often. A waste analyst company with the name Greyparrot studied this problem. They monitored a plastic facility in Manchester for six months. This big facility processes thirty-five thousand tonnes of waste. The study showed frequent contamination of plastic by these balls. They contaminated the plastic sixty-six percent of the time. The metal lid reduces the value of recycled plastic. Also, the bright colours of the plastic lower its value.

Experts call this false advertising a greenwashing practice. Aeden Rooney is shocked because he wanted to recycle. The company did not write a comment about this. Plastic comes from oil, and oil is a finite resource. Metal comes from mines, and these mines destroy animal habitats. Bauxite mining also harms human health in local areas. We must protect our environment from plastic pollution.
