Ed Sheeran Speaks Out on Stage After Rapper Macklemore is Dropped from Tour

British singer Ed Sheeran addressed a major controversy on Saturday night during his concert at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. This performance was his first since the rapper Macklemore was removed from the Loop Tour. The rapper was dropped by the promoter, Messina Touring Group, after making pro-Palestinian comments and singing a protest song at earlier shows in New Jersey. Promoters claimed that venues threatened to cancel the events if Macklemore remained on the lineup.

Speaking to the crowd, Sheeran expressed his deep concern about the ongoing conflict. He stated, "What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable." He apologized to his audience, admitting that he had made mistakes during a very difficult week. Sheeran explained that although he never wanted to be an activist, he was suddenly caught in a passionate debate about free speech and complex global politics.

Because of the tense atmosphere, Sheeran made significant changes to his performance. He decided to scrap the B stage, which is a smaller platform closer to the crowd. He admitted he was frightened of what could happen if he performed in the middle of the arena. He also faced difficulties after his supporting Irish folk band, Beoga, pulled out of the remaining dates.

Sheeran introduced the new musicians who agreed to join him on stage despite the public backlash. He expressed his gratitude to them for performing, noting that they agreed to play even though they knew the public might criticize them. Despite the anger from protestors outside the venue, Sheeran insisted that his concerts must remain a safe space, emphasizing his commitment to finishing the tour for his fans.
