NASA Telescope May Prove Old Space Theory

NASA launched a space telescope called IXPE in 2021. It orbits Earth and studies X-rays from space. X-rays are a type of light that human eyes cannot see. They come from very hot objects like black holes and neutron stars. Ninety years ago, scientists made a theory about these X-rays. They said the light waves move in a special way. This way is called polarization. For many years, no telescope could measure this. IXPE is the first telescope that can do this job. It has three detectors that catch X-rays. Each detector measures the angle of the light waves. Last week, NASA shared new results. The data from IXPE matches the old theory. This means the theory from ninety years ago is probably correct. Scientists are very excited about this. They waited a long time for this proof. The mission team will collect more data to be completely sure. But the first results look very good. This discovery helps astronomers understand extreme places in space. Black holes and neutron stars have strong gravity and magnetic fields. The X-ray polarization tells us about these fields. IXPE will continue working for at least two more years. It will look at many different space objects. Each observation adds more proof. NASA plans to share more findings soon. This is a big step for space science. Old theories can finally be tested with new technology.
