Late-Night TV Targets Trump's Dallas Convention and Cash Promises

Late-night television hosts recently discussed Donald Trump's poorly attended midterm convention in Dallas. The unusual event was organized by the Republican National Committee at Trump's direct request. However, there was no logical reason to hold such an unusual meeting.

Trump spent the following night posting on social media to dispute reports of empty seats. He desperately tried to convince the public that the venue was packed. He even begged his audience not to use the bathroom during his speech. He feared that reporters would take photographs of any empty chairs. Host Jimmy Kimmel laughed at the claims and showed clips of the half-empty arena. Kimmel joked that the arena was as empty as a self-driving Waymo.

Later in his address, Trump pledged to distribute five thousand dollars to every adult US citizen. This offer depends on the Republican party winning control of Congress this November. Kimmel joked that he spent all day deciding whether this proposal was a bribe or a lie. He concluded that it was a combination of both, which he labeled a "libe."

This cash handout would add one point three trillion dollars to the federal deficit. Taxpayers would eventually have to pay back this massive sum through higher taxes.

On The Daily Show, Michael Kosta also mocked the proposed dividend. He pointed out that the United States already has a negative forty trillion dollar balance. Consequently, the country is in no position to hand out dividends to its citizens. Even conservative commentators on Fox News seemed highly confused by the unrealistic financial proposal.
