Macklemore Pledges $1m Tour Earnings to Palestine Aid After Dismissal

Following his abrupt dismissal from Ed Sheeran's global concert series, the American artist Macklemore has pledged his entire earnings of one million dollars from the tour to humanitarian groups assisting Palestinian communities. The rapper was ousted from the performance lineup after delivering impassioned onstage speeches advocating for Palestinian rights, which sparked immediate pushback from several venue operators.

The controversy intensified when Robert Kraft, a billionaire sports franchise owner and a prominent donor to Israeli causes, barred Macklemore from performing at his Massachusetts-based stadium. In response, the Grammy-winning musician publicly challenged Kraft to match his financial contribution, emphasizing that the protection of civilian lives should transcend political differences. He urged observers to refocus the conversation on the plight of families and medical personnel operating under military occupation.

Kraft subsequently announced that Sheeran had reached out to him, prompting a joint commitment of two million dollars to address the regional humanitarian crisis. However, their statement did not specify which charities would receive these funds. Meanwhile, the fallout from Macklemore's removal has reverberated across the music industry. Sheeran later explained that multiple stadium owners threatened to cancel his performances unless the rapper was removed from the roster.

Expressing deep solidarity, the remaining opening acts—including Finneas, Aaron Rowe, Beoga, and Lukas Graham—subsequently withdrew from the tour. This mass departure followed a petition by the Israeli-American Council demanding Macklemore’s removal after his initial speech at MetLife Stadium. Though the rapper had clarified to Jewish audience members that his critique of state policies was a plea for universal human dignity rather than personal animosity, the commercial pressure ultimately forced a fracturing of the tour's lineup.
